Sorry for your troubles. The thickness of the wreath hanger's top hook, i.e. the part that goes above the door, is approximately 0.11" which includes the felt thickness when compressed. This is a little more than the thickness of 2 dimes. If you can tape 2 stacked dimes on top of your door and close it then the hanger should work. Doesn't sound like that's the case for your door so sincerest apologies.

Extendable over door hanger

Perfect hanger for my Christmas wreath this year. Well made, biggest selling point not plastic, and it is extendable length for tall door- mine is 12 feet
