    No good for UPS readings

I used mine for few months on my refrigerator and it worked well. After I tried it on my computer and it blew off because my computer is proted by a battery backup (UPS), model APC 500. I opened it to lok for a fuse, but there is no fuse inside. The resistor R3 was burnt and I cannot read the capacity of this resistor as the colors are gone too.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Not very accurate

Readings are low on the unit I purchased making KWH's inaccurate by quite a bit. A 60w lamp reads as using 42w (reading is off by 20%). A 100w lamp reads as using 78w (reading is off by 29%). And, a 150w lamp reads as using 122w (reading is off by 23%). So, if the point is to calculate what a given appliance costs to operate, this item is pretty useless. Similarly, if the point is to determine how long an appliance is running (like a freezer, for example) over a defined time period, this is no good because KWH's are not close to accurate.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Accuracy not super fine but does the job

This energy monitor seems to work well. My particular device seems to underestimate power usage by about 5w (ish) and is completely useless under 10w. A 60w bulb registers at 52-53w A 10-12w draw is displayed as 6-7 A 9w draw appears as 3-4. Under that it bounces and isn't reliable at all. However, for higher wattage items you won't notice the difference. For the price, it seems to do the job. As a suggestion, when you first buy it, put a couple items (that you know the exact power draw on) through the meter to see if yours has a bias, what way it leans and by how much. It will make reading it more reliable later.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: What happens with old unpolarized 2 prong plugs? Would older style unpolarized 2 prong plugs affect the readings or harm the meter?

    1 Answer
    • A: It is safe to plug any normal device that has two or three prongs - including the grounding pin - into the device. It is not safe to plug the device into an ungrounded wall socket that has slots for two prongs only and not the third prong or ground pin or to alter the device by removing the ground pin

Q: Does it track historical usage? I'm trying to figure out if this product tracks historical usage, e.g. if I plug a device into it for a month will it show me total kwh, or does it only show me instantaneous use? Thanks

    1 Answer
    • A: No it does not track historical data just instantaneous use.

Q: How accurate is it? Just how accurate is this, will it see small loads like a wall charger

    1 Answer
    • A: The instructions advise that the minimum measurable draw or detection would be 4 watts up to 1875 watts. As an example an iPhone charger runs at 5 watts, and an iPad charger runs anywhere from 10 watts to 12 watts depending on the model. So yes it should work with a small wall charger though you can't be certain unless you know the model of the charger and those specifications.

Q: How many amps will it take?

    1 Answer
    • A: To be on the safe side I would go with standard 15A as it is designed to plug into a standard socket. I will ask if it can take up to 20 amps which is something you might find in some homes but not many. A toaster for example is 1500 watts - 1800 watts. With a socket - or current receptacle - rated at 15 Amps x 120 Volts of house current you get 1800 watts maximum before you blow the circuit breaker or fuse. Sometimes people think there is more current for example from a socket like in a kitchen or a bathroom than there really is because they have two high demand items plugged into the same double receptacle. What is actually going on behind the plate is the top socket is one circuit and the bottom is another so you can plug the toaster and the coffee maker into what looks like the same socket/ circuit but not blow a fuse.
