As the other reviewer said - this one does not have a water pan. This results in food burning within seconds and lingering burning smell throughout the house. Shocked such a poorly thought product made its way to CT inventory.

Burns everything!

This is a nice looking dish set, but it does not have a water pan. As a result, food burns in 60 seconds. I will be returning all 4 of them.

Q: How to avoid from burning the food as it doesn't have water pan????

A: The larger sized Chafing Dish are designed to keep more food warmer for longer periods of time and for food such as Entrees, hence the need for a water pan. The 4.5Qt (known as half size) is one of the smallest sizes in Chafing Dish and since the capacity is smaller, not much food remains for any burning/warming issues to arise and are mainly used for serving appetizers and side dishes, hence do not require a water pan

Q: There is no water pan will the food stay warm or burn ?

A: The item does not include a water pan - many smaller sized Chafing Dishes do not, unlike the larger ones (mainly the rectangular ones which do). Due to its smaller size, there is less food to keep warm and having simply the cover on, will keep food warm. The item is made of Stainless Steel and due to its size and heating element size, does not give off extreme heat to burn anything -- we have never incurred any burning issues as long as the item is not put on a stove and/or different heating pad.

Q: I did not see a water pan in the box. Does this not need a water pan?

A: The water pans are more common/necessary on the larger sized, especially rectangular, models of Chafing Dishes. With the higher/larger capacity Chafing Dishes there is more of a need to keep food warmer longer.
