Replaceable batteries and long battery life

I bought one of these to replace competitive products from Sylvania which proved to be very short-lived. My experience has been that this type of product fails primarily due to the battery's inability to hold a charge as it ages. This unit has standard 3 replaceable 600mAH AAA NiMH batteries so I'm hoping that will solve the aging battery problem. In testing, the unit ran for over 14 hours with the 4-led area light before dimming significantly. In the flashlight mode, it ran over 10 hours before dimming significantly. The light colour is harsh, with lots of blue, but is adequately bright for moving around a house at night or using as an area light during a power failure. The nightlight mode is light-controlled and provides a nice retro amber glow, but is not manually switchable. Based on my initial perceptions, I recommend this to anyone wanting a power-failure night light.
