    Not A Whirlpool

Have had since Nov 2012. The unit is currently unplugged and has been since Aug 2013. Unit is noisy, and with drain hose attached it continued to leak in the bucket no matter what I did to the connection. Had to unplug the unit as a electrical burning smell was noticed. Called Whirlpool and they told me that this was not a Whirlpool unit but a Hisense unit. Contacted Hisense via there web page mid Aug and again today (12 Sep).Have had no response from Hisense.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Only a week in so far but working great

I was nervous reading the reviews but got this on sale for 170. A lot of people talked about fan noise and how it never shuts off and leaks. Well the fan is loud but it's about the same as running a fan in the room so it makes sense to me. The RH digital read out is not very accurate sometimes off by as much as 10 from the hygrometer I purchased so I use the hygrometer to set the RH desired level on the dehumidifer so it will actually shut off the coils when it's supposed to. Finally since I'm nervous of it leaking since I have carpet downstairs, I bought a 5 dollar plastic bin and placed the dehumidifier inside in, just in case it ever does leak. The bin doesn't block the intake vents. So far it's been working great. The fan will never shut off but it does shut the coils off when it reaches the desired temperature and it turns off when the bucket fills.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Does the Fan shut off when the selected humidity is reached? If the fan speed is set to Auto and the humidity level set to normal with the fan ever shut off?

    • A: Looks like the fan is constantly on and is by design. I have to use a timer so that I can control when I want it to be turned on. I agree that such design is flawed. Even if it needs to de-ice the compressor when temperature gets too low, it should not have to keep the fan blowing at all times.

    • A: Did not receive a drain hose with my unit either. I used a cold water hose from off of a old washer.

Q: Does it display the humidity level of the room? My display is at 30 and hasn't changed since I got it. I have a hygrometer that say the room is at 60. This is probably why I could not collect any water except in the continuous setting. I think I need service.

    • A: I found that the unit's own display of room humidity still worked (i.e. read somewhat correctly the high room humidity) even when the unit was not working to remove moisture. I would be interested in hearing your experience with the service process which I have just launched into with mine.
