Cuts Grass Great But Nothing Else

I love SO SO SO much how this cuts grass...but the problem is, most lawns have more than just grass. It won't cut the dandelions or the seed stems that grow out of the grass and worst of all, after only three uses, for some reason, one of the blades started jamming and I couldn't push it. I had to drag it into the store backwards to return it. When I tried to return it, they said there was one left in stock. I walked back to the lawnmower section, and the one in stock was obviously a return as the blades were rusted and the handle wouldnt' stay up. Too bad as when it was working, it was super easy to push (compared to other manual push mowers) and I was really hoping it would work. Great concept but Fiskars needs to do some tweaking!

We’re sorry for the trouble you ran into. If the mower becomes hard to push, it can help to stop and check for debris like thick stems, seed heads, or buildup caught between the blades. Clearing any material, making sure the blades are free‑spinning, and brushing off excess grass before continuing may resolve a jam. Fiskars

Q: where can you get the blades for these sharpened .....these reel-to-bedknife type mower definitely need more attention and sharpening than rotary mowers.

  • A: No, this mower does not cut when pulled backward. Reel mowers, including the StaySharp™ Max, rely on forward motion to engage the cutting mechanism. The blades are powered by the wheels, and the reel needs to be moving forward to pull the grass against the cutting blades.

Q: How safe is this mower? I am concerned about the exposed blades.

  • A: Unpacking the mower can be dangerous if you grab the front rail to pull it out of the box. The wheels are not locked at shipping, so it would be very easy to lose a finger. Operation of the mower is not dangerous since you are not near the blades while using it. I have mine set to throw the cut grass forward.

Q: Why is the fiskars grass catcher for this model not sold at Canadian Tire? Has anyone found the grass catcher available in Canada? US websites sell this product.

  • A: I have not seen a grass catcher for this model, no need for one. The mower shoots the grass forward, and you get to run the clippings repeatedly over, till they're about 0.5 cm in length. There isn't much to collect in the end.
