Basics and Safety First

This is a basic headlamp. Fits on or under a winter hat. Easy to change batteries. Bright. I bought this one because my kids had lost my HL1 collection at various summer camps. I recently had ankle surgery and am on crutches this light works very well for getting around the house at night without having to turn lights on and off in the house. I highly recommend this purchase to anyone that will get leg or hip surgeries.

A must have for hands-free light

I have several (at least five) of these and had to repair a couple of these over maybe 8 years. The Life Time Warranty is Awesome as I have had to replace a headband on one and had a switch failure on another. They sent me a whole new unit! How awesome is that. Not to mention I use it working on my vehicles or around the house, walking the dogs, camping, hiking and when flying at night as a backup incase of a power failure so I can still see the instruments and during power outages around the house.

Well built but bad design

a year ago

The bad design is first the power button sticks out so much that it easily gets pushed in my tool bag/box and next time I use it the battery is dead. I actually glued a metal ring around the power button to fix the problem. Next the strap should go the other way around the battery box. This would make it much easier to change the batteries

Coast HL5, great Head Lamp

We received two of these head lamps as a gift several years ago. We use them all the time. They're bright, easily adjustable to shine ahead or down in front of you. One of them developed a wiring harness problem and I was very happy to learn that Coast stands behind their products for life. They sent a replacement out and we're good to go. I have several other Coast flash lights, have given them as gifts and this experience has solidified my loyalty all the more.

A: Mike, unfortunately, this headlamp only uses alkaline batteries. Three AAA batteries in fact.
