A: This tarp has gaps between the weaves where there is no material, and air can't hold water, so the tarp can't hold water.

A: For this type of application, we recommend that you use our Standard Duty Transparent Mesh Tarp (040-5110). It is ideal for winter storage because it is completely waterproof and has built in sun protection. In addition, it has rust-resistant grommets and is transparent for aesthetics and the ability to see through.

Q: Can this hold water to freeze on for an ice rink?

A: We do not recommend using this tarp for building a rink. 0405030 is a Value Tarp and it is meant for light duty applications. Holding water and ice is a heavy duty task which can potentially create holes and leakage if you are not using a heavy duty tarp. Also, the size of this tarp is much smaller than the average backyard rink and we do not recommend piecing together multiple tarps as this can create small gaps and it will not effectively hold water. To ensure you have a fully operational rink we recommend one of our two designated Rink Tarps. Either 0405081 or 0405082 are our recommended products for your rink this winter.

Q: Are the tarpaulin 9x12 tarps (green) strong enough with two tied together to cover a travel trailer for out door winter storage?

A: For tough winter weather we recommend a Premium Heavy Duty tarp available at your local Canadian Tire. A good example is product 040-5022 Tarpaulin Premium 10x12.

Q: Why are tarp "cut sizes" in bold 3x larger than the Finished Size that users care about? Your 9'x12' tarp is ~ 8'6"x11'4" which would cover a flat 8'x11' surface. Advertising the "cut size" is deceptive. CTC should tell its tarp suppliers to make tarps finished to the advertised size. A 9'x12' tarp should measure 9'x12' finished.

A: We sympathize with your frustration on the size of tarps, however advertising the “Cut Size” of a tarp is standard practice, not only for Canadian Tire, but for other manufacturers and retailers; Canadian Tire does not conscientiously choose to deceive our consumers by advertising this size. As we do understand consumers need to know the “useful” size of a tarp, we have also included a Finished Size measurement on the packaging. Going forward, please refer to this size if you have very precise measurement requirements.
