It’s very solid. Just the right size for me. The sheath is very nice except for some free play, but than can be fixed easy.

Q: Buck VS SOG Should I get this knife or the SOG tactical knife? I will use it for general purpose use like caring it around our cottage and the woods. I like the SOGs millatary design but after reading theis reviews Im considering getting this instead. HELP

  • A: I have both; the Buck is an American made icon with 420HC steel with an excellent heat treatment. I also have the SOG seal pup because it's a perfect fit & length of blade with decent AUS8 steel & excellent ergonomics & versatile sheath that is Molle & scout carry compatible. I suggest that you handle both knives for tactile "feel" & then decide which feels more comfortable in hand for your personal ergonomics. Hopefully this will help your decision.

Q: Is the blade truly stainless steel, and will it resist corrosion well? Will the carbon content promote rustin if not oiled after each use? Also please provide content of alloy, percent nickel, chromium, etc. Thanks!

1 Answer
  • A: · The stainless steel used in this knife is part of the 400 series of stainless steels. · 400 series stainless (used in knives) typically has more carbon than 300 series (used in screws and fasteners). · To prolong corrosion resistance – dry the knife any time it gets wet and oil right after. Oiling frequently will help, but this depends on the climate in which the knife is used – a dry high-desert climate is much different than a humid low-land climate. Whether a knife needs oiling once a week will largely depend on the climate and what it is used for. · C=0.41%, Cr=13%, Ni=0.2% with the balance being trace minerals and Fe (Iron).

  • A: The 119 Special is a full tang, but it is not an exposed tang. The tang runs completely through the handle into the butt which is riveted to the tang.
