The Bosch 1617EVS 2.25 HP Electronic Fixed-Base Router has the power to get results, with a 12 Amp motor and adjustable speed settings. The variable-speed dial allows the operator to set the optimal speed. Constant Response Circuitry, the router will maintain a constant speed throughout the cut, resulting in clean, accurate product. Users can glide along the intended cutline using dovetail fixtures, templates, jigs and other guidance devices. The Bosch Precision Centering Design allows the bit to be centered with the sub-base or optional template guides.

Excellent router I use for routering round over table top use rounding over bits and cove bits.

We own 3 of these 1617 routers. One is on our Next Wave CNC machine. Over eight years we have only had to replace twice. These routers cut and run a lot of time they aren’t designed for. The bearings fail and not the electrical side. One tough router. Wish they were brushless.

Long life with extended use.

We have owned the 1617EVS router for several years. One for hand use, one on a router table and another on a CNC machine. Have had to replace the CNC router once. Lasted 4 years on the CNC. Currently the CNC router is just over 4 years old. Can complain. Wish they were brushless versions.

I've had this router since 2001. We have made many beautiful things in the past 24 years. I just happened to be reading reviews and thought I would throw in my two cents. It appears that the problems I have experienced are still being seen in the new products. I buy 3 replacement switches at a time. In fact the reason I was looking at reviews is that I was ordering 3 new switches. The part number has changed so I'm hoping Bosch fixed the only issue I have had. You may wonder why I continue to use this tool and the reason is simple the inconvenience of the switch issue is overridden by the ease of use and the ergonomics. One additional comment. It is hard to move the motor from one base to the other until I waxed the motor and bases. Now they slip together as they should.

Great Router, But Doesn't Last

I bought this router a 4 years ago and have not used it extensively. I was very disappointed when it started to behave in a manner where it shuts off shortly after use. I found and worked off references to clean the power switch and replace the brushes, but sucess. It doesn't stay on for me and I don't know why. It's a shame because when I used it most, I bought accessories to use in the bases. Now I'm looking at brushless router options and other brands because I want a solid tool that will last me for years to come.

No, I do not recommend this product.
