Rice Cooker - other uses

Great size, easy to clean. Steams well too. When we were renovating and our appliances hadn't arrived yet, we used a rice cooker to make full meals. If you don't like to use a microwave, this is the perfect size to heat up any soup, stew, veggies or other items in a short amount of time.

Q: it says 16 cups but i tried 16 cups of rice is too much... capacity is only around 6-8 cups of rice... what is that 16 cups for? i feel like i was scammed

  • A: You need to factor in the water or liquid amount that goes in with the rice. Total capacity would be 16 cups which might match the 8 cups of rice if your rice:water ratio is 1:2

Q: Is this product BPA free?

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your interest in the Black+Decker 16-Cup Rice Cooker. We at Spectrum Home Appliances understand that there have been various reports and articles in recent months and years that raise concerns about Bisphenol A (BPA) in consumer products and the impact of such reports and articles on the purchase of certain products by consumers. In such reports and articles, the clear focus is on the potential hazards posed by the migration of BPA from food and beverage containers into food and beverages consumed by humans and by direct ingestion or mouthing of plastic items by infants and children. Specifically and by example, the draft NTP Brief on Bisphenol A (BPA) released by the National Toxicology Program of the National Institutes of Health report states, "the vast majority of bisphenol A exposure is through the diet ~ 99%" For products that specifically claim to be BPA-Free, the plastics and resin that comes into direct contact with food and beverage are made of Polypropylene material, silicone or other plastic materials, all of which are BPA free. Other parts of the product which do not come into contact with food or beverage may contain BPA in some of the plastics and resins that are used. For products that do not claim to be BPA-Free, we have insufficient information to support a BPA-Free claim at this time. If you need further assistance, I’d be happy to help! Q: If this pan is non-stick doesn't that mean it could have those toxic PFAS chemicals in the non-stick coating? I used to have a good aluminum rice cooker and looking for another, but it looks all here are non-stick.

Q: Why does the inside of the pot say 8 cups.

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your interest in this Black + Decker rice cooker. The numbers inside the cooking pot represent the water level to fill to, once the corresponding number of rice measures have been added, per the chart in the owner’s manual. These numbers do not represent the number of cups of water or the yield of rice once it has finished cooking. If you need further assistance, I’d be happy to help! Q: hello, this product is described as "16 cup of rice cooker", but measurement inside of cooker shows up to 8 cups, how do explain?

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your quest. The capacity, in this case 16 cups, refers to the number of cooked cups of rice this unit can hold. When measuring rice to cook, make sure to use the included rice measure. Because rice expands as it cooks, one rice measure will make one cooked cup of rice.
