    Excellent Little Charger

This is my second winter maintaining a dual battery system on a 91 RoadTrek and a single battery on a 94 GMC 1/2 ton. Ensure the button is set to 12v, hook up the cables and plug it in. Batteries have been sitting for two months now, sitting at 13v and green lights on both chargers. Worth the investment.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Takes a little while but works well

The charger is pretty simple to use. Just attach the included cable to your battery (two are included, one with alligator clamps and one with "o" rings), set the voltage and plug it in. This is my second one, the first one is still running well but I needed a second one to charge a small bank of batteries (17Ah) and the only thing that I have noticed is that the slide switch on the original one I bought was a little loose, this new one they seemed to have tightened things up. I knocked the switch once from 12v to 6v but no big deal, easily spotted and corrected. This charger does well with older batteries that have lost some of their storage capacity. The slow charge works well cycling them and bringing them back to life. On the low end I have been able to bring back a 12v battery that was at 6.9v. It took a while, but after it went into float and maintain mode, I measured 12.68v as soon as the battery was disconnected, once the battery was allowed to sit for the day it stabilized down to 12.62v. Not bad, considering the condition the battery was in. Now, that being said, I did put a load on it afterwards and dropped it to 10.9v after about a hour. Disconnecting it, it popped back to 11.7v after a recovery period. I hooked the charger back up and it charged and jumped into float / maintain. Worked out well. The connectors are ok but the cable becomes somewhat rigid in colder climates. Make sure you don't wind it up tight if you intend to use it during the winter. The case is durable, thick, can take a bit of bumping around. Mounting holes in the case allow for a permanent setup. it does get warm, to be expected, especially when charging larger batteries, which obviously makes the charger operate harder and longer. Yes, it will do a car battery, but don't expect rapid results if it is seriously depleted. This is a slow "easy does it" charger which frankly I prefer, rather than zapping and cooking batteries, however I know that some recovery modes pulse a high output into the battery to get the plates working again. A good buy, easy to use, great build quality. I would give it a 5 start rating for its charging performance but settled on 4 because of the cable rigidness in colder weather.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Why should it not be used on batteries smaller than 10Ah What charger is good for variety of batteries, 3 to 30Ah, 6 and 12v?

    • A: Even at just 1.2A, this is too powerful for such small batteries. General rule of thumb is charge rate should be 1/10th of battery's Ah capacity. (There are batteries/situations that can handle much greater charge rates.) So, for example, batteries under 10Ah should use a charger under 1A, like NOCO's G750 or Battery Tender Jr, both of which are 0.75A.
