Take your chances

My Classic just doesn't shoot well. Groups of 8 inches or more at 20 yards is pretty typical with the occasional pellet hitting a couple of feet low. Yes there is a warranrty, but the cost to ship back to the distributor for warranty is paid by teh purchaser. They don't offer discounted shipping rates for warranty returns either. Something this size isn't cheap to ship. I've learned my lesson. Beware. Yes, there is a warranty, but look very carefully at the warranty terms. You may need to pay a lot more to get it shooting the way a new rifle should.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Excellent quality for the price.

What can I say? This is an amazing rifle. Shoots straight as an arrow and the optic is much better than I thought it'd be. Fit and finish is excellent and I love the fact that this rifle is chambered in .22. Canadian legal (500 fps) but easily shoots a hole in a steel drum. If you want to vaporize mice, use this rifle. If you don't want the mess, get a .177.

Best .22 Rifle sold at Canadian Tire
After buying 2 different .177 air rifles and returning them I read the reviews and took the plunge and got this Benjamin .22 on sale. The scope was very easy to mount and I had it adjusted within day 20 shots. I’m getting an easy 1” grouping at 50 yards with Crosman Pihrana “flying ashtray” pellets. I use it for pest control in town and it’s deadly against Magpies and Mice. My best shot was a Magpie at 90 yards and it dropped it cold with a vertebrae hit. I couldn’t be more pleased now that I’ve used it all summer and fired a few cans of pellets through it. It’s heavy, quiet, accurate and a joy to own. If you can swing a few extra bucks for this rifle you won’t be disappointed.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Deadly accurate @ 50 feet
I purchased this 22 cal pellet gun 11 years ago, to kill rats that have invested our neighbourhood. I am against baiting rats because it kills squirrels and other harmless creatures. The gun is so accurate, within 50 feet, it's a clean immediate kill without suffering. I have seen the horrible suffering a rat experiences from baiting. I am guessing over the past 11 years I have killed 200 rats. To this day they are still a big problem for our whole city, with no end in sight. I encourage more people to engage in this type of rat control to protect other creatures from the horrible pain and suffering of baiting. Also rats are very intelligent, they know to avoid traps and bait over time.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: why does it say on the box good for smalll pest control and large pest control
15 years ago
6 Answers
A: It is not good for large pest control...just because its a .22 dosent make it anymore powerfull then the .177 that they sell because they BOTH have to be less then 4.2 FPE in canada or you need a PAL..the way they do this is by shooting light weight alloy pellets in the .22 for the fps rating and a heavier pellet in the .177..either way its still 4.2fpe or less...if they were PAL rated guns then there would be a difference....this gun can not shoot 14.3 grain lead pellets faster then 363fps or the gun would be illigel and youd need a PAL..they get 495fps by shooting very light pellets.

Q: when i get an fac, will i be able to upgrade this to the normal fps?
6 Answers
A: Absolutely! The Benjamin Classic .22 is EXACTLY the same rifle as the Benjamin Sheridan Super Streak, but with a weaker spring. After you get your PAL, then you can have a qualified gunsmith exchange your piston spring for the one in the Super Streak. The Crosman Quest 1000 spring fits also. It is dangerous to do this modification yourself.
Keep in mind that the cocking pull on a break-barrel is directly proportional to the strength of the piston spring, so if you want a faster gun, then you'll have to work a lot harder to cock it.
Another solution is this: The stated muzzle velocity on the box, (495 fps) is the MAXIMUM speed of a pellet fired from this rifle. In ACTUAL testing using a good quality chronograph, this rifle fires pellets between 420 and 467 feet per second, with an average of 441 fps. A good gunsmith can 'tune' the spring in these rifles so that they fire at the posted maximum muzzle velocity of 495 fps. That way, you'll have a nice, mid-range .22 calibre air-rifle, with enough punch to keep you happy for years, but without breaking any laws....

Q: what would be better this or benjamin trail series and why does this one have animal pics and the other does not and for this one whats the (e,g)
5 Answers
A: I have both these rifles. At the same distance a crosman .22 hollow point fired from the classic .22 penetrated 3/4 of the way through a phonebook. Fired from the nitro trail it was slightly less. Both guns have less than 75 shots fired from them so are still in breakin period and may have different results later. I am vert happy with them. The nitro trail is heavier, but I find breaking the barrel and cocking is much easier and smoother. Trigger pull on the classic is not so heavy as on trail. Also on the classic the scope has illuminated reticle. The nitro trail is quieter as well and more backyard friendly

Q: does the scope come premounted?

A: No it's not premounted but the scope and the gun are ready for that so not difficult if you have never done that before.

Q: Scope stop
Should it have come with the gun? The scope keeps moving on me.
5 Answers
A: I tightened mine up and it did not slip. I adjusted mine to be as close to my eye as I could get it because the gun has almost zero recoil. If it were a high power rifle like my .308 I would adjust my scope to have maximum distance between my eye and the scope.
Seems to work well. I was concerned about scope slip too but I did tighten up pretty snug. There is always a bit of worry about stripping a hole or a screw or snapping a screw off. Was not a problem.

Q: does it have enough power to kill a rabbit?
5 Answers
A: i would be suprised if 5 shots killed a rabbit my 22 that has 20x the hit power of an airgun usually takes more than 1 shot to kill a rabbit

Q: Is the stated speed of 495fps take into consideration it is a .22cal
16 years ago
5 Answers
A: Actually, the stated MAXIMUM muzzle velocity is 495 fps. In FACT, through chronograph testing, this rifle fires pellets between 420 fps, (Crosman hollow-points) and 467 fps (RWS hobby). The average is about 441 fps, which makes this a good 10 metre range target-shooter, but since the low pellet speed provides only 6.18 ft.lbs of energy, this is insufficient to kill anything larger than a squirrel.

Q: Is this a nitro piston or conventional springer?
4 Answers
A: This is a springer model... It would say NP on the box if it was Gas Piston. It also says the scope is 3x9x40 with no mention of milldots. Don't kid yourself - it is a great scope for the benjamin 495 fps model. Nice and tight ajustments, positve clicks on the turrets and dust caps and the mount is rock solid , not to mention the reticle you can light uo if you want. Got to pyramin air and check their videos on scope mounting. well worth the time.

Q: Where would i have to aim to kill a rabbit in one shot?
4 Answers
A: 495fps or 4.2fpe is not enough power to take a rabbit cleanly with 1 shot..there is not enough power in the gun to hunt game that out weighs the power of the pellet...you should only hunt game that is half the FPE number in weight...so 4.2 fpe...1 or 2 pound animal..squrrel or chipmunk or mice or grackle..
