Darndest Fine Twine You'll Opine For

They call it "sisal rope." I've never heard that term before - I just call it "twine". I needed some to tie up my outdoor rugs for the winter. As usual, Canadian Tire had plenty in stock (they're so good for that). It was very easy to work worth, and displays a bit of elasticity so if you tie things too tight, the rope will probably "give" a bit. I have yet to think what else I can with this product, but I am considering putting it in the craft box, rather than the toolbox. The color is very earthy as well.

I saw this product online and went to the store expecting a natural sisal. This product was bright yellow, so I did not buy it. Do not buy if you want a natural-coloured rope.

Réellement 1/4 de pouce constante du début à la fin du rouleau (d'autres marques sont inégales, rendant difficile d'attacher serré). Ce serait encore mieux si KingCord faisait aussi des rouleaux de 100 pieds et plus!
Consistent true 1/4" from beginning to end of roll, other brands have variable diameter, making tying a bundle tightly, difficult. Would be even better if KingCord also made 100 feet spools!

A: No, this isn't good for pet use. It has rough fibres that would irritate if chewed or when touching the skin. Fibres could also get in the eyes and scratch.

Q: I bought this rope it smells like tar. Is this rope chemically treated. I was wanting make a rope mat for my pet.

A: This sisal rope is perfect for cat scratchers- it is no different than the sisal used on many pet store brands. While it might feel rough to a human hand, cats like scratching “rough fibers” and there is no greater chance of this rope irritating a cat’s skin or getting in their eyes than any other rope found on scratchers/climbers in stores. I’m not clear why nobody bothered contacting the manufacturer (including the seller) before labeling this rope as chemically treated & unsafe for pets. Respectfully, I would not recommend the blue polypropylene cord suggested by Canadian Tire because be used for cat scratchers. Cats & horses are very different, and not only is the blue cord 250% more expensive than the sisal, but it is also not a texture cats would enjoy scratching. I have contacted MIBRO customer service & they have advised that: “ All MIBRO KingCord sisal is 100% natural fiber and is not chemically treated.” I have used this sisal rope on cat scratchers in my own home & it is holding up very well. The cats like it and nobody has eaten it, gotten it in their eyes or developed irritated skin.
