Q: Lifetime How long do these bulbs typically last? Compared to a "true" HID system with ballasts, how do these bulbs match up?
18 years agoA: The many silverstars I have had average a 6-8 month life, many others I know had had less success, maybe 1-3 months. These are simply a set of halogen bulbs with a light colour tint on the outside. These, like any other blue halogen bulb will never be able to replicate the output of any HID lighting system; it’s like comparing a candle to flashlight. The coloured coating on any of these bulbs actually reduces the light output of the bulb, much of this just further translates to heat. The blue bulbs may look brighter, but looks are deceiving as it is simply the different color of light that is emitted appears brighter, especially when compared to all the other halogen lights on the road. The light output of any bulb is also a function of the headlight housing it is installed in and the lens condition. Without getting into further details, a HID lighting system has roughly 3 times the light output as compared to 55W halogen headlights and significantly longer life.
