It provides superior winter traction and control through a directional tread and multi angle blocks that grip snow and ice with ease and help reduce the risk of hydroplaning. With stud holes so you can add studs for extra lateral traction, this tire is built to carry you safely and securely through Canadian winters.

Snow Peak Rated

The 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol indicates the tire is rated for Severe Snow Service. This is the acceptable standard for winter driving in Canada and provides improved safety on snow and ice.

Mud And Snow Rated

The M+S symbol differentiates an All-Season tire from a Summer only tire. While rated for light snow, they will not match a winter tire for traction or stopping distance on snow and ice.

Accepts Studs

This tire can have studs installed to provide additional mechanical traction on icy surfaces. Studded tires are prohibited by law in many provinces. Ask at your local Canadian Tire store.

Price vs performance way above expectations

I’ve been running these winter tires for a bit now, and overall they’ve impressed me. The grip on ice and in snow is excellent — the kind of traction that gives you real confidence on winter roads. Braking and cornering both feel solid, even during colder mornings. The only downside is the noise level. They’re noticeably louder (got studs on) than my previous set, especially at highway speeds. I also noticed a very small change in fuel consumption, but nothing dramatic just a slight drop, which is pretty normal for aggressive winter tread. Overall, great performance where it matters most: safety and traction in harsh winter.

Q: Is the tire performance and wear impacted if not using the studs. As in do the holes affect the performance versus a tire that doesn’t have the holes in it?

A: No — the presence of stud holes alone does not meaningfully reduce tire performance or accelerate wear when you run them without studs.

Q: What is the UTQG rating for these tires? (Traction, temperature, and treadwear)

A: Quote from a tire manufacturer. "UTQG markings are not required for deep-treaded light truck tires, winter/snow tires, temporary spare tires, trailer tires, and tires under 12-inches in diameter" Because they're meant for winter conditions, a valid UTQG code compared to a summer tire is not possible. Winter tires typically have a softer runner compound for the colder temperature. This would result in accelerated wear if used in summer. However from experience (2 sets) I can say the the Altimax are a very good winter tire with the first set lasting me 5-6 winters
