Pretty Good Feeder

With the proper seed, finches love it. I've had four of them in simultaneous use for four years now and I feed birds year round. Yes, the plastic yellows in the sun but the birds don't mind. A lot of seed falls to the ground where pigeons and chipmunks enjoy it. I fashioned a tray from a dollar store splatter screen to hang underneath and catch some of it. The top can be secured from lifting by pulling the hanging wires apart so the width between them is wider than the distance between the two roof holes. That way, you have to push the roof up to compress the wires in order to raise it.

Bought this feeder 12 years ago and am still using it. 2 of the plastic perch covers have fallen off but the birds don't seem to mind. No problem with yellowing and I feed year-round, mostly black oil sunflower seeds. Good value.

Nice beginner feeder

Worked well for attracting both finches and cardinals in our Toronto backyard. Squirrels were able to lift the lid and grab the upper container, until I figured out better placement to make it squirrel proof. Even survived 3 falls to the ground due to poor mounting by myself, but the plastic bottom finally cracked today on the 4th fall. Still very good product for the price, easy to fill.

Cette mangeoire a une bonne capacité, est facile à remplir et a six perchoirs. Elle est très fréquentée par les moineaux et les mésanges. Les perchoirs sont courts et repoussent les gros oiseaux (ex. étourneaux). Cependant ils sont recouverts d'un embout de caoutchouc qui s'arrache aisément et laisse le métal à découvert. Il vaut mieux coller les embouts ou les remplacer par du ruban style duct tape. La mangeoire est un peu difficile à démonter pour le nettoyage.

Great Thistle Feeder

This is a great little feeder, provided that you use it exclusively for thistle/nyjer seeds. This will attract only the smaller birds, like chickadees and goldfinches, and will likely keep the squirrels at bay. Adding other seeds will simply frustrate the larger birds, who will eventually start pecking at it in the hopes that seed will fall to the ground. This could result in cracks and holes after a few months, allowing moisture to penetrate the feeder. That's bad news.
