Preserving our forest but only cutingt what we need

With the cost of firewood going up every year it is time to look at alternatives. The property we own was cut over 20 yrs ago. Our plans are to preserve our growing forest but only harvest what we need. Can attach the splitter onto my ATV and bring it out into the woods to cut up and split wood. Last year we had Birch and Poplar fall over from the storm. Had cut these trees down and had cut them up with plans to use them as firewood. The Yardworks Log splitter did a good job of splitting the wood so I could add it to my woodshed.

Reliable splitter.

After years of splitting by hand and having the hassle of renting a splitter every year, it was finally time to get everyone a splitter to have in the yard. It took a long time to decide what brand and models to purchase, looking at things like build, tonnage and pricing. We had seen this model around for a long time and it has not changed much, so there was lots of time to correct little mistakes. The first thing I liked about this one versus say the 20 ton, is that the cylinder ram is more reinforced into the body of the splitter, I did not particularly like the ones with the cylinder hanging past the back. The engine was a very known engine, typical to these kinds of machines and know that maintenance would be easier as parts will always be readily available. The whole build to me felt like it was more substantial. Like most splitters, you will need to fill the hydraulic system, so if thinking of purchasing, know you will want to pick up a bucket at the store, which if times right, you can probably get a sale on it. The filling process is not that bad, take just a little time, makes sure levels are good once the system is flowing and good to go. The engine started right up after filling with fresh gas. You of course get a little of that first time burn off for the first few minutes, but after that it's good. The splitter works great, just as well as any I have rented. It has plenty of power to split big blocks and we don't baby splitters, it's been handling the pressure. As for the little things I read in reviews prior to purchasing, I have not came across any issue. A lot will come down to maintenance, but if an engine issue happens for instance, like I said, it's a well known thing, so even after warranties are considered, I feel confident anything could be fixed with a little know how. Overall, it is a good splitter, I would recommend waiting for the revolving sale, instead of paying regular price, it usually is one at least once a month and it's a decent price compared to what's available.

Great Splitter

Purchased on sale and very happy with it. Be sure to have help to put it together as lifting the main boom arm is super heavy. You will need a five gallon pail of ATF for the hydraulic oil.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Yardworks 100876 25-Ton 224cc Gas-Powered Log Spli

The log splitter works great, I only ran it through 1 cord of ash so far but it did the job without hesitation. I have to give 2 thumbs up to the Carleton Place C.Tire, they assembled the splitter for me no charge and it was done by one of their mechanics with quality work, I just hooked it up to the truck and drove it home, added the required oil, it started on the second pull. A well built product that looks like it will last.

Q: Can the tires be changed out to allow it to be towed at a higher speed?

  • A: This is not recommended. Additionally, you will need a VIN number in order to register this for highway travel. It should be towed in a trailer if needed to be taken at higher speeds or on a highway. Thank you.

Q: Can you purchase a 4 waybwedge for this.

  • A: not sure what you mean by 4 way, but it is only meant to split in the one direction and then automatically retract. Since it splits bigger logs than you can carry, you will have your hands full keeping up unless you have help.

  • A: Hi, assume you have the fuel turned on in the choke on? Also, the carburetor float could possibly be stuck, try tapping on the side of the bottom, part of carburetor, but be very gentle.
