    Buying it Again

I bought this a couple years ago and it lasted two winters. However, this year I forgot to disconnect it and it refilled during the winter thaw, froze and split the bottom. This was of course, entirely my fault. We particularly like the planter on the top, which sets it aside from other barrels. The only recommendation I would make it put small piece of window screen across the drainage hole before planting. It will help hold the soil back- we found that in torrential downpours the planter would get so much water that the soil would run out. The screen for the barrel also gets clogged with grit from the shingles, you have to give it a clean a couple times through the season.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

We’ve had this barrel for three years and have drained it prior to winter and found leaving the spigots open during winter to allow to freeze/thaw and drainage. The screen does a good job of keeping debris out and we pop mosquito dunks in each season just in case and have no problems. It’s attractive and like the two spouts and varying heights to allow for use of hose or watering can. The overflow is very useful but agree that the height should be changed. It’s nice to be able to make the rain barrel a part of the garden with the planter on top. Looks great with cascading greenery!

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Design Flaws

A couple of things to be aware of. Once the rain barrel is completely filled the overflow water simply runs down the outside. We had to attach a hose into the overflow hole to divert the water away from our foundation. Also, there is always about a 1/4" of water remaining in the top, when the barrel is full, which cannot drain due to the position of the overflow hole. This is a potential mosquito breeding zone, if it sits for a few days. Just hoping it doesn't crack as other reviewers have noted. Otherwise I'll go back to using an ugly plastic industrial drum.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Don't buy as barrel cracked over winter

It's a nice looking rain barrel, but used it one year and over the winter the bottom seam cracked and now it's useless. Always remember to keep your receipt, Canadian Tire won't exchange or refund it, even though it was purchased within 1 year. So now I'm out the money for the rain barrel. Poor customer service!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Bought it last year at a Canadian tire store in Ontario , and I used it last year, coz it has a crack on the bottom when I took it out to use this year.

Q: how to wintering? drain water and put upside down?

    • A: The community answer below is very well stated. The only other thing we may suggest in regards to the cleaning is to use a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water to rinse the inside. Good luck!

Q: Does it have an overflow spout or hose?

    • A: Not one that works to divert water away. There is simply a hole near the top where the overflow water runs down the barrel. Very poor design. We bought a piece of clear hose and shoved it in this hole and ran it out into the lawn.

Q: How is the rainspout attached to this wicker rain barrel?

    1 Answer
    • A: The rain spout does not directly attach to the barrel. Instead it would be cut and sit above the screen by about 7-12 cm and the water would flow over and through the screen into the barrel.
