Q: what thread type is it looking for 1/2" NPT

A: The pipe thread is NPT, meaning National Pipe Thread. I believe it is 11 TPI ( turns per inch) pipe thread is also tapered to help with fitting and possible leaks

Q: Does this adapter have threads inside to go on to a water meter?

A: The answer is no. The PEX adapter referred to in the question below has a 1/2” female NPT threaded connection. Most water meters need 5/8” or bigger, it varies. Usually people connect their water meter to a compression nut or a threaded valve.
