Captures them live!

I wasn't sure about this trap until I spoke to a nice lady at the manufacturer's. From what she said, and from a few other things I heard, I managed to set this thing up really well and caught my pest! She said to bait it with peanut butter (which I had tried in the past) but the secret was to take a swab and rub a little PB on the walls of the tunnel and just inside the trap to lure them in. The other thing that I hadn't thought of was to remove the more attractive source of food that they had been snacking on, in this case my paper-lined compost bin, to make it worth it to them to explore the trap. I placed the trap right where the missing compost bin normally sits, under my kitchen sink. I did both these things and caught him the very first night. The other thing that I didn't know, and it's important is that the little guys wee in the trap while they're waiting. I couldn't see it, but I took the trap apart to give it a little scrub and I could SMELL it. So be sure to clean right after you let the little guy go... at least rinse it well... before you rebait for another night's catch. I'm very satisfied. Only small critique is the thing is a bit hard to put together once it's been opened. If not for that would give it 5 stars.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Works as advertised

We found that we had a mouse in the house and wanted to try and catch the littel guy to release back into the wild. Seeing this trap was the cheapest live catch option I figured I'd give it a try.... Put a little bit of peanut butter in the bait corner and left it facing the closest wall to our crawl space (where I figured would be the best place to a mouse to live). Next morning, I had the little guy safely in the trap. I dropped him off in an industrial park about 4km from home on my way to work the next morning. The trap worked perfectly, was easy to use and re-usable too. Releasing him was super easy and did no harm to the little dude either. Would recommend if you are looking for a no kill option and you know it's a mouse or two you are looking to trap. Note, I'm not sure how 10 mice would ever fit in here... and I question why a second mouse would enter after you've trapped the first, as there would be no food left... Anyway, still a good purchase and I'll leave if baited in the same place in case there are others snooping around.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Waste of bait...

Both of the traps we baited were cleaned out of bait, and full of droppings. Don't bother with these..

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank-you for providing this feedback regarding the Victor Catch & hold mice trap. The see-saw mechanism in this trap is designed to allow mice to enter the trap, as well as keep them from leaving. We are sorry to hear about this experience. Please keep in mind that the manufacturer backs this trap with a one year warranty. These comments are appreciated and have been shared with the manufacturer. Please do not hesitate to contact us for additional assistance. The manufacturer can also be contacted at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867) with any questions or concerns.

This doesn't work. I came back to a trap full of mouse droppings but all the bait was gone. The mice just went in, ate, and left. I was hoping to live-catch and release the mice far from the house but it looks like I will have to use lethal traps. I am not happy about this product. I tried this one and another, bigger, metal model and neither worked.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Worked Great; however 3 mice might be tight

With the help of a little peanut butter I have caught mice and small rats with this trap. With mice, you may find only two or three will fit. Hopefully you are lucky enough that this isn't a problem. With small rats you will need to be a little creative. My rats tried to chew and pry there way into the peanut butter. Duct tape will slow them down; however after catching a few I had to purchase another trap. With rats you may also find your trap relocated. I resorted to taping it to the floor. My big issue with this trap was getting it back together. Once you slide it entirely apart it can be tricky to slide back together.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 3 of 3 Questions

Q: Where do you put the bait? Do you put it along the ramp that they go up or do you put it in the plastic holding area at the end of that metal ramp so that they go right in first? Instructions don't say. Thanks! Have baited it for almost 24 hours and still no mouse.

  • A: You slide open the trap, and put it in the corner opposite of the reamp entrance. Then slide the trap together again. Place the ramp entrance side against the wall, so the opening creates a little tunnel for the mouse to go into, then up the ramp and in.

Q: Is this trap large enough ( opening) to catch chipmunks? Is it 100% humane as I do not want to kill them, just release them outside?

  • A: I dont think its large enough, for example it would easily hold 3 mice. and yeah just releae them outside later.
