Protect what you Butcher DO NOT buy this product

I bought 2 rolls of this paper in January to wrap an LEH Elk we harvested in northern BC.(purchased in the Ft.St John store) We processed the entire elk and the paper appeared to wrap normally. In March and onward to present every item we unwrap, the glue ( whatever adhesive is used) has somehow absorbed into the meat. The result is total frustration and losing 35 to 50% of the elk meat depending on the package size . I would highly recommend avoiding this product from our poor experience. It's tough enough to get an Elk and draw, let allow loose a big percentage of it to a faulty product meant to protect it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for taking time to leave a review. We're sorry to hear that you're not 100% satisfied with your purchase. Based on your description (wrapping meat back in March) it sounds like your elk meat was wrapped and frozen.

The Vermont Castings Butcher Paper is non-coated which allows it to be both recyclable and compostable, which makes it more environmentally friendly. Vermont Castings Butcher Paper does not include any adhesive. It is Uncoated and unwaxed 100% virgin paper. The Vermont Castings Butcher Paper was designed to trap smoke while releasing steam. It is best used on smokers and pellet grills as it is heat resistant, it is not designed for freezer purposes.

For paper that is specially designed to be frozen, please see specialty items such as item# 175-1395-8 (Weston Heavy Duty Hunting Freezer Paper)

Great product if used as directed

Reading all the comments on this product I believe there is a confusion on exactly what this product is used for. This product isn't made to freeze your meat, it lacks the wax on the inner side that is needed for long term storage of meat. This product is designed to use when cooking in the oven or smoker. It can be used to store meat for a short period of time in your refrigerator. Please read product description before purchasing. It is a great product when used as directed.

A: It’s the same type of paper you get your meat in from a butcher. If you were wrapping meat to freeze I would still maybe put it inside a ziplock bag or wrap it in cling film

A: Thank you for your inquiry. The Vermont Castings Butcher Paper is non-coated, which is different from traditional butcher paper on the market. Some contain a wax or Polyethylene coating, which make them unable to be composted. The Vermont Castings butcher paper is both compostable AND recyclable. (Always check with your local recycling guide lines, as recyclable items can differ from location to location.) Hope this helps!
