don't install on a pickup truck

while the camera system works well, when I put the camera on my tailgate the signal is very weak in the cab and it keeps turning off and on.
Also, that 7-pin mount doesnt work if you have an attached cover. You would have to remove the cover completely before the camera will sit properly.

poor image quality

I bought this to replace a a camera that died and use it primarily for hooking up my trailer. When I bought it I didn't realize the camera isn't intended for permanent mounting. Since I use it for hooking up the trailer, I could live with that, I could mount the screen keep it inside and attach when needed. The magnetic camear mount is strong and works well. I liked that the screen can be plugged into the cigarette lighter or wired in permanently to avoid the wire hanging on the dash. Unfortunately the clarity on the screen was so poor I couldnt see the hitch. Especially in bright sunlight the camera would see the white trailer nd the hitch area was just a black shadow. No adjustment of brightness or contrast would fix it. I feel a lot of what you pay for are the multiple connection options ie. you can plug the into thhe 7 pin electrical connector. most people will never use all these options, and the image quality is not acceptible so I returned it.

Magnetic mount, weak transmit

Where do I begin? I was looking for a solid, permanent installation. This is actually a camera that can be magnet mounted to anything, including its own mounts. But there's no latches for that, so you have to trust the magnet. I don't...
After zip tying it to its mount, I had a bigger issue. During backing, right when I needed it most, it would cut out.
I discovered that even putting my hand behind the camera was enough to interrupt the signal to the monitor.
Very disappointing.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Vehicle 2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS wagon. Wiring up camera to the positive & black (neutral) back up light only? Does this charge the camera battery? With engine off is the battery still charging ? how do you charge the battery?

Q: How long will the battery last if left on to watch behind you while you drive (ie. to the back of a trailer)? Answer to one question was "the camera was not designed to constantly be on" - what happens if left on for few hours?

A: If you use the camera on it's own battery, the manual indicates that when the camera battery charge reaches 20% an icon will display on the monitor. If you wire it to a constant 12V connection, the image will always be on & it will always be charging up the camera battery & I assume that would solve your problem. Be advised that if the camera is always on, it will continue to draw power from the vehicle after the ignition is turned off & will probably kill your vehicle battery sooner than later.

A: Hi Jason, We have not gotten reports of people stealing these cameras. If someone did steal the camera, it would be useless without the monitor.
