Like any safety item, researching is key to operation, and the web site let's you know where to find it in the store. Yes, the ammunition is sold separately and at this store right by the pen. Once purchased, reviewed item use on YouTube. Thank God. As camping two days later, a Grizzly came up to our camp sight, our dog alerted us first, but his barking and our yelling did nothing as he kept walking towards us. Grizzly got about 15 feet from us. Used the pen and ammo, as directed, and the Grizzly ran up the side of the hill. Reloaded and let another off above its head. He took off over the hill and was not seen again for the remaining 5 camping days. Yes, I would buy and use it again. Easy to use and carry clipped to your collar, shirt pocket, neck of your shirt.

Disappointed customer

Very difficult to find it. Had one helpful salesman from automotive who had never heard of one but looked it up and walked me to the section. The gal there did not know anything either. We found one in a locked cabin. I purchased it and being ignorant about how they work and with no help did not purchase the ammunition package with it. Need to go back next time I am in town and try to find the rest of the product. Meanwhile the bears still visit. I am sure the product is good just not the selling process

Excellent deterrent

This is an excellent tool for walkers/hikers - sounds like a gun going off and scares away wildlife. Size of a pen so easy to carry. My only critique is that the clip needs to be better because this is my second one as the first one was lost because the clip is like a pen clip - not adequate for hiking.
