Troy-Bilt 3:1 Self-Propelled Lawn Mower, 21-in

Did my first cut with this lawnmower this week and it performed well. The only thing I would of liked to see as a feature is to have the bag door stay opened when you are emptying the bag. My old mower had a hinge that would keep the door opened and would close again upon re-starting the lawn mower once you emptied the bag.

So Far it's been Great

I bought this mower early spring, so far it's been very good, for a front drive propelling mower. My previous mower was rear wheel drive, which lasted for 24 years. After every use people, flip it on it's side, carburetor up and wash all the grass cutting off the under carriage with a garden hose! My only question is how long the front drive will last, since it's plastic and will start to Crack? Time will tell, other than that it's a good mower n easy to handle.

I have owned this Troy-bolt 7 years as of this day it’s starts 99% of the time first pull!! I do regular maintenance. It’s a great mower hard to beat for price and durability.

163cc, front wheel drive model

5 stars for performance, 1 star for documentation and assembly instructions. Don't try to make one manual to cover several different models. Very confusing. Lots of power, much better than my battery powered mower. FWD works good unless you try to set to very short cutting height. Starts up in 1 or 2 pulls. So far, I'm impressed. My previous gas powered mower lasted 20 years. I hope this one is just as good.

Avoid Troy 163cc Lawnmower

I have owned several Troy lawnmowers along with other pieces of Troy equipment. This lawnmower has caused issues from the day I purchased it and continues to do so three years later. It is currently sitting in my garage awaiting a small engine mechanic to pick it up as it is will not start again this year. The flap was destroyed by the blade and ripped apart the first year. It simply never starts without great effort and about 10 pulls. Meanwhile, my 15 year old Troy lawnmower that I gave to a friend is still operating fine. My loyalty to Troy products and has been severely tarnished.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: How do I remove the spark plug?

A: Hello rene. Fit the spark plug socket over the plug and turn counterclockwise to loosen. If you’re having trouble ratcheting, don’t force it, as this may cause damage. Instead, apply lubricant and allow to soak for a few minutes. You should then be able to easily remove the plug. It’s important that you specifically use a spark plug socket, as these are specifically designed to protect the ceramic insulator. Attempting to remove or install a spark plug with inappropriate tools can result in damage. Thank you for your question.

Q: I am confused between 2 models. Both are Troy built. One has Honda engine 160 cc (Push) and this one is 163cc Troy-Bilt Commercial Engine (self-propelled). I am not sure how good are Troy engines comparatively and not sure which one should I pick.

This self-propelled model travels at approx 4km/hr, a comfortable walking pace if you want to let the mower drive itself (good for gentle slopes and larger area lawns). Q: Rear bag door why does it not stay up and why is there a pocket on it that catches grass. when you remove the bag the door drops the graas in that pocket drops on the ground. Does not make sense
