useless line

only got chance to use this for one day, for the price paid the rod seems ok, the reel is adequate but the line.....omg the line is just terrible, if you're buying this you seriously need to buy new line at the same time or you will spend all your time untangling birdies from the reel like i did. you get what you pay for...

The Rod:
Within 5 casts, the rod tip cracked and splintered about 2 inches up from the join. Had to stuff the remainder back in. Second fishing trip out, the tip shattered (read "exploded") into hundreds of fiberglass splinters giving the line a pluck.
The Reel:
The drag is junk. After tightening it up, it worked itself loose in 10 casts and started to bunch up the line into nice birdnests on the reel.
The Line:
Junk. Line retains spirally kinks from being wound, even with decent weight on the end. Combined with the junky reel drag, this thing just keeps making birdnests.
The tackle:
Probably all junk. Lost the lure, swivel, and a bobber to the bottom when my rod tip exploded and took out a chunk of line.
My particular one had no mention of the word "Youth" on the packaging, although I probably should have realised it beforehand. Still, I wouldn't give this thing to a child unless you wanted to spend your entire trip trying to patch this awful rod back together. Unless, of course, your goal is to teach your kid how to tie knots, untie knots, join line pieces back together, and to use duct tape.

Good rod, bad reel

Bought this combo set last year and am not a very avid fisherman, so the reel has seen little use. Both the drag and the reverse lock no longer function after 1 season of fishing. The rod is fine but I would strongly suggest either another combo or another reel as this one is not durable at all.

This casted further than my pricey shimano reel !

My father purchased this very inexpensive combo and outcast me consistently all day yesterday at the lake. He could not believe the performance and raved about the great deal he got. The rod stood up to the pounding of 5 large Jack fish and several Walleye.
Very, very good rod and reel combo.
