Potential Death Trap for birds

I bought this bird feeder a year ago and loved how it attractive birds, kept the food relatively protected from the elements and the overall look, but, that ended the day I found a bird with its head stuck in the stand. It took a half hour to free the poor bird. Beautiful feeder but a poor design.

lethal to small birds

I found a small bird that was trapped inside, it had entered through the centre hole and was unable to escape. I threw the ring away.

Breaks easily

The cardinals really love using this feeder but I have gone through 2 when the wind brought them down and they broke. At this price, they are too expenseive to keep replacing

Bird head stuck in feeder

We've enjoyed the feeder until this morning when a sparrow got it's head and neck stuck in the feeding slot area. We had to unscrew then break apart the feeder, helping the bird. Luckily the bird was able to fly away. We'll be staying with the usual tower feeder's with perches.

Attracts larger birds like blue jays

It works well if you add a second feeder for smaller birds as the one is so popular with the larger birds like bluejays and woodpeckers. I hung mine on a plant holder with two hooks. I did find the opening to add the seed was a bit small.
