    Defective out of the box

Having used Steiners in the military for years and never knew of a problem, I purchased a set of 8x30 more than a year ago for use at our cabin, and I would rate this set as a +5. Recently purchased a set for myself and right out of the box they had a major problem. The left lens was difficult to adjust and made grinding noise as if gears or splines were stripped. No doubt quality control inspections are being done to previous standards.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I’ve always appreciated this brand but never experienced first hand. I picked these up for birds and wild life watching in the back yard and at the nature preserves w have around us. They are comfortable to use and have a great feel. I like that they are short and wide, they pack nicely and don’t feel like a burden to carry around your neck either. Very half I picked these up after doing a bunch of research.

I’m very impressed with these binoculars. I was a little hesitant when I first ordered them, but I have been using them for a couple of years now and they function and look as if I just pulled them out of the box for the first time. The autofocus feature is so helpful, especially if transitioning between two separate distances.

Steiner is known for making excellent optics, the Military and Marine 8x30s definitely live up to their reputation. This is my first set of Steiner binoculars and won't be my last. They provide a crisp and clear view, the infinity focus allows for "set it and forget it" capability that makes a big difference for those of us with astigmatism to adjust them once and have a clear view at any distance without readjusting them. They are extremely durable and well-built. SOLID BINOCULARS that are much better than any of my others in the same price range.

I've had a couple of pair of these over the years and just got new ones. They live in my truck and boat. Pros: clear glass, good contrast and accurate color, easy to use, rugged Cons: edge to edge clarity is only about 80% FOV, after setting the focus for distance, you are limited at distance closer than 25 yards. You have to refocus for close distance which isn't the design purpose for these. So not good for birds or bugs, but fine for normal glassing. Overall, for a low cost binoc they are very good. Great with kids, and family because of the simple focus once design. Tough and light weight. A touch bulky, and they don't fit any harness cases being porro prism. But being porro's they have better glass than roofs at similar price, IMO.
