Questions

Q: Description says the strips measure calcium hardness. That’s not on my pack. Instead, mine has a measurement for alkalinity. Is that the same as calcium hardness?

  • A: Hi, the Aquarius Test Strips 50pk, test for free Chlorine, Bromine, Alkalinity, pH and Total hardness. The Aquarius Sodium Chloride for salt pool 10pk, test for salt. Finally Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness use different reagent for testing and have different reading scale. Thank you

Q: The FCI tab on my strips keep falling off in the tub when I go to check the water. I have used probably less then a quarter of the strips what is the warranty?  They have an expiration date of 5/24 so this should not be happening.

Q: the reading is 1500? what is it means?

  • A: Hi, the Aquarius Pool and Spa Test Strips do not reach 1500ppm. Here are the ranges of all the parameters that can be tested. You might be using an Aquarius Salt Test Strips. In this case, it would test 1500 ppm of salt. Test Factor Range Free Chlorine 0, 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 10 ppm Bromine 0, 1, 2, 6, 10, 20 ppm Total Chlorine 0, 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 10 ppm Alkalinity 0, 40, 80, 120, 180, 240 ppm pH 6.2, 6.8, 7.2, 7.8, 8.4, 9.0 Total Hardness 0, 100, 250, 450, 800 ppm Thank you

Q: I have quite a lot of foam in the hot tub when the jets turn on. I am a new hot tub owner and am looking for a cause.

  • A: Aquarius Spa foamaway will get rid of the foam. The other answer is rinse your bathing suits better. If you are washing them too frequently the detergent gets stuck in the material and is coming out in the tub. Just rinse and rewear them. Try running them through a wash cycle with no soap, or skip the suits all together for less foam.

Q: Has Aquarius changed their name to Olympic by CPI? My husband went to buy this and was given different test strips made by Olympic by CPI. The employee at Canadian Tire was told Aquarius changed their name. The packaging looks nothing like this.

Q: I have been using the poolchemicals app on your website to determine the amount of chemicals to add to hot tub after using the Aquarius Pool & Spa test strips. the app no longer exists on the Canadian Tire website. Where can i find it?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, you can download the Aquarius app on the Apple or Google store. It is still available on the Canadian Tire website under How to maintain a pool. If you can't find it, look for Canadian Tire Pool Chemical Calculator in Google and it will come up first in your research. Thank you

Q: Do these work for salt chlorinated pools?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, Yes they will give you you your free chlorine, pH, Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness readings. They don’t give you your salt level. For a salt level reading you will need the Aquarius Salt Test Strips. Thank you

Q: Product description says this kit measures calcium hardness. However, it actually measures total hardness. How do I convert to get the right reading for the app? Safe range for calcium is 100-200. For total it's 250-450. I read 250 which app says is high.

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, for pool water testing total hardness and calcium hardness are mesuring the same parameter, which is the level of calcium in your water. It is just a matter of terminology. We assume you are testing your spa if the recommended range is 100-200 ppm. The acceptable range on the test strip is wider because it can be used for both pool and spa. The reason why we recommend to keep your calcium level within 100-200ppm is to protect, maximize the efficiency of your heater and prevent scalling. 250ppm would be on the high side, but still safe. Thank you

Q: Is this sensitive enough to test the chlorine level in your tap water?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, the Aquarius Pool and Spa Test Strips are not intended to measure the chlorine level in tap water. The range is 0, 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 10 ppm. Thank you

Q: I've had a couple of readings with both high total alkalinity and low ph at the same time. Is this even possible? I tried to balance the ph with ph boosters and reducers as per aquarius app, but ended up fixing the problem by adding fresh water.
