    Avoid this

I would give this zero stars if I could. I have one of these that was professionally installed. Operation has been inconsistent at the best of times. These things also draw power all the time, and my battery ran down while I was on vacation. I was able to boost the car to get it started, but now the dealer tells me I have to take it in to have it 'reset'. It's designed to go in a car - batteries run down or, heaven forbid, need to be replaced. Do I need to run to the dealer every time this thing has had an interruption in its power supply? I would recommend against buying a SmartStart.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Very little coverage in newfoundland

I purchased 2 this units when it was on sale. Had one of the units installed on my car . The unit would not pick up cell coverage in my area. Checked with the manufacture and found out that they only use rodgers cell network. Which only has coverage in the St. John's/ Avalon and the corner brook area. Not full coverage on the island of Newfoundland. But I didn't have any problems returning them. After I explained the situation. Great costumer support CT.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not quite as good a expected.

The basic remote starter works very well with provided transmitter. The cell phone accessory is not particularly sensitive, even with 5 bars signal strength there are some areas where it will not work. The app is easy to use download and use. Unfortunately performance does not meet expectations. Would have expected far superior performance than is demonstrated.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: What if my car does not have a remote start? Will this work as a stand alone unit?

    • A: Absolutely not. This is simply the cellular receiver for an existing remote start unit.

Q: how much would the instalation be? i have a 2009 honda Odyssey

    • A: Installation will vary by market. To put things into better perspective: You will need a pro-start, bypass module (DBALL2) the Smart Start module and Labour. Typically, you would probably be looking at around ~3-4 hours of shop time plus the costs of the above mentioned hardware. So price out those 3 items and find out what 4 hours of shop time is worth at your favorite store to get a rough idea of price. Manual transmission vehicles and 3-in-1 systems will cost more to install than a 2-in-1 in an automatic. Some Euro / luxury / exotic vehicles will be more, and in some cases, not even possible. It should be noted that some CT stores will not install them due to not having techs with much experience installing remote starts. Don't get mad at them if they say they wont install it. If they say that, then it is in your best interest to find a CT store with an experienced installer.
