Spend more time troubleshooting than sewing

something stops working on every 20 minutes. I've gone through 2 machines that both broke within days of purchase. And I've been able to fix the issues but then they contunue happening constantly.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Horrible

I bought this to do lightweight mending without having to haul out my giant old sewing machine. I am so disappointed. The stitch selections don't work. No matter what I choose, there is never a straight stitch.. The tension control doesn't work. It was missing parts. It was missing a user manual.

Please do not waste your money on this very poorly made very flimsy machine. The plastic machine part that holds the bobbin case snapped in half - major machine part. Cannot glue back - nothing. DO NOT BUY

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

After using my Singer for 60 years, it was finally time to buy another. I thought this would be perfect since I only use it for repairs any more. The bobbin casing would move with the bobbin which would break the needle. I did everything I knew to make sure it was seated correctly but that did not help. I've learned that Singer sold out to a company overseas so you no longer get quality you can rely on. I would definitely not buy any new Singer!

Complicated simple sewing machine

Gave the M1000 machine a 4 because, I own a very complicated Bernina and found winding the bobbin on the M1000 quite a challenge. Instructions in book were not so helpful and the videos, once stopped at spots was OK. Finally figured it out. Amazing how a simple machine could have given me difficulty! But once wound and threaded, it sewed really well. Nice even stitches.
Yes, I recommend this product.

A: The Singer model M1000 Mending machine has the Free arm feature which allows you to sew hems and cuffs with ease. However, for thicker fabrics, a full-size machine would be recommended.

This machine is easy to set-up, a portable size, with preset stitch settings, and 32 stitch applications that will assist with simpler mending, quilt piecing, or basic crafts. For thicker fabrics and more applications, a full-size machine would be recommended.

A: When you put the cover on the bobbin pull the thread forward and turn the wheel a few times until the needle comes back up. The bobbin thread should come up with it.

A: The dimensions above seem too big for the Singer M1000. The one I have is ~12" long (including knob), ~10" high (including spool holders that jut out from the top), and ~5" wide. Small compared to the other models.

Q: Can this machine be used for finishing sewn garments like using a serger?

A: The Singer model M1000 Mending machine has 2 stitch patterns that are considered “Overcasting”stitch patterns that would be similar to a serger stitch pattern. However, a serger trims the excess fabric as it sews an overlock stitch pattern and a Singer model M1000 Mending machine doesn’t, unless you are using an optional Side Cutter attachment. Also a sewing machine sews with only 1-2 needles and a bobbin (2-3 threads); it can’t sew with 4 threads.

A: The Singer model M1000 Mending machine and other appliances that are made for the North American market and purchased from a North American vendor are 110/120 volts. In order to use them abroad you most often will need to purchase a transformer. It is our experience that when using a transformer there are too many fluctuations in the voltage causing irregular surges. For this reason, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to use this machine in Europe, where voltage used is 220/240 volts. You need to be aware that should you connect this machine to a transformer and the wiring is damaged, you will be responsible for any parts and labor to repair the machine, as using a transformer voids the warranty. These items were intended for sale in North America only.
