A disappointing surprise

Some years ago I utilized Sauder office furniture in my business premises. Not premier quality, but it looked good and was solid and functional. I assumed that I would still be looking at this quality when I made my recent purchase. Not so. The components were so flimsy that even when completed the structure swayed, warped and seemed to be at risk of collapse. I resorted to locating the cabinet in a corner, secured solidly to the adjacent walls, to give it the stability needed. Appearance-wise, the exterior "Oak" finish is a plastic woodgrain wallpaper that looks exactly what it is, wallpaper. On a positive note, the assembly instructions were clear, there were no missing parts and all the components fit together correctly, although care had to be taken to insert screws and nails perfectly straight to avoid splitting the narrow frames and supports. It is unfortunate that Sauder has chosen to offer such a substandard line of product.

Q: Does this cabinet have to be secured to a wall. I am not allowed to put holes in the wall.

A: A wall support is included in the box however ypu dont necessarily need to anchor it to the wall if you distribute and balance the weight evenly throughout the cabinet. Do not put large bulky items on the top shelf making it top heavy and prone it tipping Otherwise you should ne fine I have three of these in my basement and put heavy stuff on bottom and have tried to balance weight throughout and have never had them even close to tipping over. Nice looking cabinets great for storage

A: It is not quite deep enough for a full size hangar, so the hanging rod would not be a good idea.

Q: Hi in the photos it appears to be oak colour but with a greyish tint but in some customer photos with the reviews it looks more reddish. I definitely don’t want red oak look.

A: I would say yes, with a light sanding and a good primer. Bought this cabinet over a year ago it has held up well but it is made of chip/particle board with a paper finish.
