Nothing dull about it!

Applies nicely, dries with a glossier look then I expected. Container is quite large for small jobs like easels or chalkboard frames.

Questions

Q: We currently have a chalkboard menu, but no matter how many times we wipe it, it's always messy and still chalky. Does this wipe away clean, leaving a fresh black canvas to write on?

2 Answers
  • A: YES AND NO.....I found the only way to keep it clean is to use a baby wipe and then wipe dry with paper towel and then go over it one more time. I have also used windex. But just water and soap doesnt seem to cut it.

Q: I know it says is interior paint but if I were to use it on a wooden wall outside it won't wash off with the rain?

2 Answers
  • A: The paint won't wash off no but it won't with stand the durability of weather. Personally I'd just buy a Matt black paint and use that instead.

Q: How many coats are needed? What size surface will one package cover (for a wall)?

2 Answers
  • A: It only took less than half a tin to paint a large surface for some diy projects so I would guess one tin would easily cover a standard sized wall, ie 8 feet by 20 feet.

Q: I have an old white board that I would like to repurpose as a blackboard... will this paint work on that kind of surface?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi houseofkids, Great question! We recommend cleaning the surface first, lightly scuff sand with 220-grit sandpaper, remove the sanding dust and then prime the whiteboard with either our Zinsser B-I-N or Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 since the surface tension will be low. Then you can follow up with our Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalk Board Paint.

Q: can this cover a 4x8 sheet of plywood with 3 coats

1 Answer
  • A: The Chalkboard paint should cover a sheet of plywood with 3 coats as the 887 mL can will cover approx. 95-120 sq. ft.. However, use of a latex primer is recommended as it provides superior adhesion and hiding and is especially recommended for bare wood and metal. You can apply Chalkboard Paint 2 hours after applying the primer. After priming bare wood, sand lightly to smooth out the surface.

Q: Is the spray paint better then the real paint. Why or why not?

1 Answer
  • A: Rustoleum spray paints, and brush on paints are equally good. There may be scenarios, however, where one format proves to be more appropriate than the other. For instance: -On surfaces with lots of detail work, or corners that are hard to reach with a brush, an aerosol paint can make application easier. Aerosols are also great for small projects, where quarts, or gallons of paint aren't necessary -On surfaces that are larger, brush paints are a more cost-effective option.

Q: Is this easy to cover over or remove?

1 Answer
  • A: Instructions 1 Clean the chalkboard surface with a damp cloth. Remove all traces of chalk. Allow to dry. 2 Apply a coat of primer using a paint roller. Chalkboard paint is usually a dark color, and the primer will help cover the color and prepare for a new paint. Let the primer dry overnight. 3 Apply one or two coats of latex, or acrylic, paint over the chalkboard paint. A roller will give you a smooth surface and a speedy application process. Select a paint that is considered a high-covering paint. 4 Allow to dry and repeat if needed.
