They are stainless butter knives; short so fit many in knife drawer easier; easy to clean as stainless from tip to tip; light weight; dishwasher safe with no fear of handle rotting or discolouring.

The package calls these "spreaders" but I'd call them "butter knives", which is what I bought them for. So I don't really see the need for four in a package. I would have preferred if they were sold individually. They're also a little on the small side, especially when used in conjunction with other Paderno serving utensils, which are comically large. But they're sturdy and get the job done.
