Product in can seems the best but not the rest

Did not prevent rust at all.

This product did not work to prevent rust on metal that had been cleaned down to bare metal, even though all instructions were carefully followed. As best as I can tell, the product allows moisture to pass through it, which caused rust to form underneath. I absolutely do not recommend this product. Attached are photos showing the condition after only one winter on areas of my car that were ground down to clean metal, treated with acid, washed, etched, and then coated with this product followed by a top coat. It is quite clear that rust simply developed through the coating and that it did not properly seal the metal. From what I can tell, a 2K epoxy primer is likely the only reliable option. I will now have to redo all of my repairs and try that instead. Shame on this company for selling a product that does not perform as advertised, and shame on Canadian Tire for carrying it. Products like this should be properly tested before being sold. Very disappointing.

Removed rust from truck frame and applied paint. Paint was smooth looking and very hard when dried.

Excellent product, easy to apply, goes on very well, second coat with using a brush looks like it was applied with a spray guy. The consistency of the product worked well into tight areas. I used the product on the frame of my truck, it did a great job and it was exactly what I expected. Just follow the instructions and was very easy to apply.

Great rust sealant for areas not exposed to sunlight

I've used POR-15 several times to treat rusty car parts with great success. The trick is not to cut corners and follow the three-step process completely. These kits are perfect for doing this on small-medium jobs. The only time it didn't work for me was on an exterior panel exposed to sunlight - the POR-15 paint flaked off despite the fact I followed instructions and covered it with POR-15 Top Coat for UV resistance.

Q: Can I use regular base coat/clear coat paints over POR-15 primer? Do I have to sand over the por 15 prior apply the base coat?

  • A: Most likely. We used Tremclad. We lightly sanded it before applying.
