Broke and clip hard to use

The clip is really hard to get on and off the trap, and the clamp area on the trap broke on the 3rd time using it. When it was being used it worked well to catch small fish.

Its a minnow trap...it traps minnows
Helpful?

strictly for crawfish, not minnows.

minnows just swim out of the net because the entry holes because the holes are too large. buy the silver one without the welded rings on the entry holes.

Great, a little light.

Works great. By-catch can be a problem but havent had anything die in it. I wish it was heavier, a decent current in the river requires a secure tie off on the bank.

decent bait trap

Ok quality.. the seams where the mesh wraps & ties together are a bit rough & can cut you with the sharp edges/tips if the mesh bends outward; so need to handle with care.

Q: How do these traps work exactly? Do you have to put any type of bait into it? can you tie it off to a tree and leave it over night to do its thing?

1 Answer
  • A: There are multiple baits that can be used and the trap can be secured by attaching a rope to the trap and securing the other end to a stationary and secure object on the shore. Suspend the trap so it hangs freely without touching the mud and silt on the bottom. Mud and silt contaminates bait, and the minnows will not be interested. Position the opening of the minnow trap in line with the current flow. Minnows turn their bodies sideways when swimming against the current and will get stuck in the trap when they go after the bait.
