    Terrible product

I used this seed last year and I had to over seed several times before it filled in. Now it looks terrible, I don't know how to describe what's there, it's green but it's not what I consider grass. Just some green fuzzy junk. Really sorry I used this seed.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Started sprouting quickly

I was a bit skeptical about the claims and the cost of this product versus generic grass seed. I've had poor performance with previous attempts to seed areas, but this time I did this: (1) Scored the underlying earth with a rake. (2) Used loose black earth on top fo that to give the roots something to grab. (3) Made sure I misted the area twice a day (note: do NOT let the water puddle) (4) I used netting and an owl decoy to keep birds away The net result of the above was five day gemination for the majority of the seeds and I expect the rest to follow suit shortly. We'll have to see if how the rest of it germinates and if the touted root enhancer really works, but signs are encouraging so far.

Zero results despite following all directions

I have several bare patches in my lawn - mostly from where the kids play a lot in a fairly shaded area. I followed all the directions - spending a couple of hours really roughing up the surface with the rake, seeding, watering - and then setting up a automated sprinkler system to ensure it never dried out. The area has been off-limits to foot traffic as well. The bag promises visible results in 7 days. Here we are 14 days later - and there isn't a single new blade of grass growing in these areas. Perhaps I just got a bad bag - but I'm quite disappointed after all the work I put into providing optimal conditions for this seed.

    Excellent Results. Seed on Steroids.

I was debating ripping up my lawn and laying down sod. My lawn had bare patches, was full of clover and weeds. I decided to seed the bare areas and if it took, then I would forgo the expense of sodding. I couldn't believe my eyes when germination started in 4 days and by 2 weeks, you'd never know there were bare patches. So.... I bought 3 big bags of the Ultimate, Weed and Insect seed and mixed them together. SOIL PREP IS KEY. I dethatched my lawn and aerated it. I then raked it well. I then sprayed nematodes into my lawn during a nice rain and kept it moist for 2 days. Then I topdressed with 50/50 black earth and manure (threw in a shovel and a half of moist spagnum peat for every 2 bags) and brushed it down into the lawn with a heavy broom, followed by a raking. If your soil is dry or compacted (esp with clay) the seed can't take. You must rough it up. Then I used a spreader to seed the areas. I watered 2x/day (the weather has been perfect so 3x right now is not needed, not too hot) and today is day 4 and I'm seeing the first signs of life. I have no reason to believe I won't have the exact same results as I've previously had on the bare areas. You CANNOT let the seed dry out during germination. If it's dry, it dies. The soil it's on/in must stay moist at all times. Don't over water so there's puddles sitting all over your lawn. I handwater and once I see the slightest bit of water collecting, I move on to the next area. I highly recommend this product. The results are a nice dense growth that spreads and establishes well. My neighbour seeded 7 weeks ago and it doesn't look like the areas I seeded just 4 weeks ago now. I've mowed those twice already. I cannot say how much of the grass is annual vs perennial but im sure if i overseed every year, in a couple of years, ill crowd the weeds out.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Poor Germination

I used this product on top of new topsoil to repair some bare patches in my yard. Followed the directions, ensuring I watered every day, etc. and only about 10% of the seeds have germinated. Very dissapointed.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Questions

    1 - 3 of 3 Questions

Q: Will this grass seed still sprout beyond its expired date on the bag and if so how long?

    1 Answer
    • A: This expiration date only pertains to the MycoActive (Bacillus) that we impregnate on the seed to make it “promixable”. The seed component is still viable even though the expiration date on the packaging has lapsed.

Q: Would this work on clay soil?

    1 Answer
    • A: Clay soils can be problematic in that they contain such small particles that they do not allow for moisture to get through, or for pore space between the particles. A good soil should have a large percentage of pore space to allow roots to grow. Renovating the area by adding at least 3 to 4 inches of good compost or top soil and tilling it in to a depth of 5 to 6 inches will greatly help. Also clay so can be acidic in nature, so it would be beneficial to check the pH and amend accordingly. If you can get lots of organic matter into the soil, with the correct pH then yes this grass will grow well there. This blend is suitable for lower maintenance and play areas. It contains Creeping Red Fescue, Intermediate Fescue, Annual Ryegrass, and Kentucky Bluegrass. After establishing the grass be sure to maintain regular feedings with a good fertilizer, adding a good top dressing to the lawn every spring will help add more organic matter, which will continue to improve your soil.
