Prestone® DOT 3 Brake Fluid - Synthetic, High Grade, 80,500km - 946mL

$21.99

Product Details

Prestone® DOT 3 Motor Vehicle Brake delivers enhanced performance vs. DOT standards, benefitting all vehicles calling for DOT 3. This synthetic fluid starts with a higher dry boiling point than the DOT minimum standard to protect against overheating, brake fade and performance decline due to water absorption. This extended life (50,000 mile) fluid is also formulated to prevent corrosion of all metals within the braking system. This formula is safe to use in all DOT 3 braking systems (ABS, disc or drum) and can mix with any DOT 3 fluid. It is recommended to only use the DOT fluid specified for your car, as using a different DOT product can affect the boiling point or replacement interval if the wrong fluid is used.

  • 80,500 kilometer Fluid Life

  • Prevent Overheating & Brake Fade with High Grade Formula

  • Protects against performance decline due to water absorption. Prevents corrosion of all metals within the braking system.

Good Large Size Brake Fluid

The bottle was large enough to replace a master brake cylinder and bleed 4 wheels. I still have a quarter bottle remaining.

Brake fluid

Some good juice makes my car stop

It's DuPont supplied core basic ingredient based, as are ALL DOT 3 standard hydraulic brake fluids.

It was an overpriced emergency purchase on my part. The dual cylinder master brake cylinder's brake fluid reservoir in the older all mechanical AWD GM van I happened to be at the moment running has a slit in the partition between its two reservoirs. Unbeknownst to me the rear brake line had a rusted through pinhole in it where it passes over the van's fuel tank. The front brake fluid reservoir lost enough brake fluid through the slit into the rear brake fluid reservoir due to splashing to cause the van to eventually loose functionality of both the rear and the front brake circuits. Plus the van never gave a brake warning light. Fortunately the van lost its brakes just as I was slowly pulling into a handicap parking stall on the shopping mall parking lot where the selling Canadian Tire is. The handicapped parking stalls at that mall have two bollards, one at each of the corners at the stalls' heads so I deliberately steered the van into a bollard to stop it. Was only rolling a couple of MPH so the air bags never blew and the bumper held. Although the old plastic bumper cover over the underlying steel bumper did sustain some cosmetic damage. After thus wise bumping the van to a stop I checked the van's brake fluid reservoir assembly, completely empty. I located the general whereabouts of the pinhole rear brake line leak and determined that with refilling the brake fluid reservoir assembly the van would have functioning brakes and have sufficient brake fluid to get the van home. I was at the mall for a different reason but ended up at the Canadian Tire to get sufficient brake fluid, DOT 3 brake fluid. I bought the lowest price for the volume DOT 3 brake fluid I could find in the Canadian Tire. DOT 3 standard brake fluid is DOT 3 standard brake fluid. DOT 3 brake fluid is essentially effectively DOT 3 brake fluid, regardless of the name on the container. All are synthetic. Dupont and no one else in North America makes the ethylene glycol core basic component of brake fluid, so unless one is buying Dupont's own brand of DOT 3 brake fluid all of the other myriad of other DOT 3 brake fluid brands are based on the core basic component that comes from DuPont and only Dupont. DOT 3 is a specification for a hydraulic fluid used in hydraulic brake systems, and hydraulic clutch systems. If the hydraulic fluid meets the DOT 3 specification it does the job DOT 3 hydraulic fluid is intended to do. Period. Regardless of brand, regardless of marketing hype. I could have bought a bit more volume of DOT 3 hydraulic brake fluid for about two dollars less from a Red River Co-op Gas Bar on the mall's parking lot, and I happen to be a long time Co-op member, it was just that I didn't want to buy three small containers of brake fluid and next have to fiddle with breaking the seals of three small containers of brake fluid from the Co-op. At least the seal on the Prestone brake fluid bottle was easy to peel off and now I've a relatively expensive sturdy yellow plastic container with which to buy and transport an American quart worth of diesel fuel―equal amounts of diesel fuel and acetone make a decent penetrating fluid. I have since bought elsewhere another American quart bottle of DOT 3 brake fluid for half the price I paid for DOT 3 brake fluid at Canadian Tire. The lower cost DOT 3 brake fluid purchased is of the Kleen-Flo brand. The Kleen-Flo DOT 3 hydraulic brake fluid itself is no better or no worse than the Prestone DOT 3 hydraulic brake fluid itself, however, the Kleen-Flo is of a better value than the Prestone. Versus the drab colour plastic American quart Kleen-Flo bottle it's a lot of money for a yellow plastic American quart bottle with a Prestone brand label on it. Your mileage may vary.

Questions

1 - 1 of 1 Question

Q: HI. I want to ask for Prestone DOT 3 Brake Fluid, 946-mL for the 2016 Nissan rouge s 2.5L engine is OK? the owner's manual recommends using Genuine Nissan CVT Fluid NS-3 only in Nissan. CVTs. Do not mix with other fluids. thanks

  • A: Do not put brake fluid into your transmission! Especially into a Nissan CVT. Also, keep in mind that brake fluid level will always drop as brake pad material is used up and you don't need to top it up unless you've got a leak in the brake system (which is a different problem). Just don't let it drop below the MIN mark.
