Q: Does this lamp only turn on at night to deal with the bugs or is the sensor for the ambient light only?

A: This lamp is not worth it. We purchase two left them on and after three days not a single fly was inside the mechanism, and we were still being eaten alive. If you read the “positive” reviews they’re either sponsored or AI. I would advise wasting money on this. And yes there is a light sensor that triggers it to come on at dusk.
