    Great combo, can handle heavy tackle and casts well. Have been using it for saltwater fishing as advertised. Time will tell if it holds up but from my research its good bang for buck.

    reel failed on first day of heavy use

    I will be returning it tomorrow. after casting for a half day the reel failed,started coming apart. I was lucky I had another reel with me on my fishing trip.

    2 of 3 combos failing

    This is my third IV combo. 1st one has been going strong for 3 years now and it's great, it's landed many large smallies and a few 40+ pike. 2nd one lasted 1 season until I started having issues, it still works today, but not reliably and not smooth so it's a backup to the backup. 3rd one I purchased a month ago and the anti-reverse has failed making solo netting difficult as the fish can take off freely without any resistance if you're not holding the handle in place. I'll open it up to see what's going on but likely a complete failure based on feel. No more Puirsuit combos for me! I'll stick with the Fenwick HMGs paired with Pflueger Presidents: very reliable.

    It’s a typical Penn, doesn’t look fancy, but is a truly professional rod and reel, built to be repaired if necessary and works perfectly. It’s also salt water ready for bonefish in Bimini.
