It features mesh screens of different densities to contain up to 3 pounds (1.3 kg) total of Nyjer and mixed seed in separate compartments. Common songbirds can easily access larger sunflower and mixed seeds, while various types of finches and sparrows can cling to the finer mesh to access the tiny Nyjer seeds. Q: Does this feeder have openings around the bottom to let the seed out into the base tray?
a year agoA: Thank you for your question. Please note the design of this feeder ( with its mesh/screening feature) allows the birds to attach themselves to the feeder anywhere on the mesh surfaces and feed to their hearts content. The base tray is more of an overflow seed catching feature to minimize the amount of seed that falls yo the ground from the mesh area when the birds are feeding. As you’ll see this is a two in one feeder : 1) A general purpose feeder for mixed seed 2) A finch feeder for Nyger seed and finch seed mixes. Happy birding.
