I purchased this battery powered pump for a window well that occasionally fills with water during very heavy rainfalls. Have not used it for that purpose yet, but test in pail of water and it worked well!

Q: what is the minimum depth of water that it can pump?

Q: During power outages would I be able to drain my basement with this IF I attached a garden hose to the pump's drain hose? This height would exceed 40 inches, but would be solely vertical. Would the water climb as the pump runs until it hits gravity?

  • A: No, it does not have enough power to push vertically more than 40 inches. It is powered by D batteries. As stated it is good for pumping water out of small boats or low sided pools only.
