My third Ion auger, I purchased the original, then I purchased the G2 and lost the battery so I purchased the Alpha. I already had the light 10 inch auger so just bought the Alpha with the 8 inch steel. Found the battery to the G2 and gonna use it to extend post holes with my old auger bit, which works pretty good. They just keep getting better.

We have an older version of this. It doesn’t have the bracing on the handles. They are not strong. Our first one, the handle broke right off. Our 2nd one (under warranty), we’ve been so cautious to ensure we minimize the torque. The handle is still bending in. I’m not impressed. This is too expensive for this to happen.
However, it cuts ice amazingly. Like butter.
I hope this version is better.

Gas vs Battery operated

Works fast! Love the fact it’s battery operated, when drilling out holes inside the ice hut, air is clean unlike the old 2-stroke auger I have. Ice hut would fill up with exhaust from the gas auger making it impossible to breathe. The battery would last all day and most of the following day if you were searching for fish moving around and drilling a lot of holes.
The other advantage of a battery operated auger is the simplicity of just squeezing the trigger, you are not setting a choke or flooding the engine and trying to pull start a temperamental gas auger. This makes it much faster when driving around on a snowmobile drilling a lot of holes in search of fish.
Yes, I recommend this product.
