Great

We used them around the edge of the balcony so the cats didn't slide out the bottom slates. I realize that's not the purpose but it worked great

  • A: Hi,this is an excellent solution for wood decks..i dad mine painted and then I used these tiles and secured them with drywall screws and washers at the corners so they don’t move.it’s been on for the last 10 years with no prombels at all.cut to fit if you need to. As far as grass, absolutely not a good idea. I hope this helped you.

Q: Can these tiles be placed ontop of grass like for a playground base

2 Answers
  • A: Theoretically yes. They do have some flex to them. As long as the ground is mostly flat it should work well. But not comfortable on bare feet.

Q: Are these tiles good for an outdoor balcony that is slippery when wet and also gets -30 C temps at times? What prevents the entire mat from sliding?

2 Answers
  • A: Yes, these tiles are perfectly suited for balcony flooring.  Slightly uncomfortable on bare feet.  However, installation takes longer for these compared to wood-plastic composites (WPC) because each tile connects to neighbouring tiles by many pegs/holes that are tricky to insert.  Once the tiles are interconnected, the combined weight as well as friction created by the concrete both work to prevent slippage.  These tiles will withstand -30 C but it's important to ensure the balcony has sufficient drainage of water (no pooling of more than 1 cm deep).  We've seen these tiles once to "burst fracture" (as if it exploded) when they sat in a pool of rainwater/ice that underwent repeated thaw/freeze cycles.  The liquid water expanded within the tile seams when it froze and ultimately damaged them irreparably.

Q: can these tiles be cut? what would you use to cut these tiles with?

2 Answers
  • A: Yes, each of the smaller "sub-tiles" is 3"x3", and you can cut them with a workshop knife or very sharp shears. Any smaller than that you'll have to use a shall hand saw to cut.

Q: 10 in a package covering 10SF? Am I correct in saying that one package of these tiles will cover 10 square feet? My balcony is about 200 square feet.

2 Answers
  • A: Yes, you're correct.  You will need 200/10 = 20 packs, but generally should add 5-10% wastage if cutting them (10 extra tiles or 1 pack).  Mistakes happen, esp. when cutting these for the first time.  Sometimes a cut tile cannot be reused, therefore, extra tiles needed.

Q: What colours are there?

2 Answers
  • A: These tiles are black.  If you'd like other colours, check out "wood-plastic composite" (WPC) deck tiles.  The latter are generally better nowadays because they're more visually appealing, softer on bare feet and easier to install (quicker).

Q: Will this product stand the Ontario winter outdoor? Once interlocked can they be un-interlock?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, This product will withstand harsh Canadian winters. We do not recommend taking the tiles apart as they have a very tight connection and disconnecting may be a challenge. Thank you!
