Better than a brush cutter for clearing out an overgrowth.

Bought this for my Ryobi Whisper series Brushless power head. I am not really using it to clean hedges or trim them...I am using it to clear out a raspberry bush infestation on my yard. This thing is great. The swivel head allows me to kick it out on a 45 degree angle and swing it like a scythe to smash through a 2 foot swath of combo bushes (raspberry, some weird green leafy things and golden rod) just to name a few. Something like a string trimmer without the explosiveness. The plants just drop where they are cut and I end up wearing less of the debris. Love this thing.

Poorly assembled and gets VERY hot!

I had the older version of this trimmer attachment for a few years and was very happy with it. That one had a blade break inside the gearbox so I replaced with the new model. This one would not let the blades move out of the box. After loosening the two bolts, the blades move much better. However, after using for 30 minutes I found that the gearbox was extremely hot (140°F as reported by non-contact temperature sensor). I spoke to the CSR but they did not have a spec on thermal performance so I'm not sure if it's working as designed. I can say that there was very little grease from the factory so I added more on reassembly but if it's that hot, there is likely somewhere else that didn't get lubrication and it will probably fail soon. The service center is a bit of a treck so I will call them and see if they recommend repair or just returning to store.

"Power Scythe"

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Was purchased for use as a "power scythe" for thick stemmed weeds and forbs in a meadow After re-balancing the shoulder strap, it works quite well. Makes quick work of stuff light brush that a string trimmer or even a brush blade cannot cut.

Yes, I recommend this product.

A: My guess is yes, it fits almost all expand it type tools except Stihl - but I was able to turn it around and it now fits the Stihl, had it 3 years using a powerful Stihl engine on going through everything I could it and it ran perfectly, best tool I ever bought for my combi unit. If it doesn't fit return it, but it's a great tool.
