Inferior materials and poor support

Bought it a few months ago, and the plastic scraper bar broke on 4th use. Big surprise, it’s not covered under warranty since it’s a wear item. Even worse? Replacement cost for a strip of plastic is $130. Will never buy another B&S product again. Other than that, it seems to work ok, but the directional chute tends to wander back to straight ahead when you have it turned off to the side.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Auger belt keeps coming off

I used it for the first time, and the auger stopped working. I took the side panel off and the belt came off and was stuck around the larger wheel. I put it back on, and 5 mins in, it came off again. This happened 5 times, so I ended up shoving. No happy with this product. I paid a lot of money for something that didn’t work.

Broken Scraper bar & machine goes sideways

UPDATE : The scraper bar has broken into pieces and a replacement is on backorder for 1 or 2 months. I've had the machine for 33 days !!! Now I have a boat anchor. I live in a snow-belt area and so far have received over 10 feet of snow. Much of it is cleared 2 or 3 times as the wind and snowplows move it back onto my double driveway. My Ryobi electric couldn't handle the volume, so I picked up this unit. On the plus side, it starts easily, runs quietly, blows snow quite a distance and handles the stuff at the end of the driveway fairly well. On the con side, I still can't register the unit for warranty purposes as the site will not accept my information and JD is not returning calls. A large CON is that when snow is more than 3" deep, the unit is pulled forward by the auger on an angle, meaning I cannot go straight ahead but always veer to one side or the other. Being an older Senior, I have trouble managing this flaw and would happily trade it in for a 2-stage.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Total garbage. Do not waste your money.

Bought a second machine when first machine broke after first return. Parts keep breaking. Pull handle broke, “plastic” scraper blade broke during first snowstorm. Part replacement was $160. Without scraper blade machine is unusable. Should have bought a Toro.

Q: How do you lower the scraper plate so that snow doesn’t blow back to your feet ?

5 Answers
  • A: think what you are saying. If the per say driveway is what you are clearing thinking this machine will not blow some snow back toward your feet is wrong your driveway is not as smooth as a piece of glass. There for the scraper blade will not fall into small dips in the ash fault or concrete to clear the snow from the belly dips. I have two of this style but different make and they do the same thing

Q: A significant freezing rainstorm hit us, and the large ice bank on our driveway was ploughed by municipal snow. Can that kind of ice be cleared?

  • A: I was really impressed with how this machine handled the piles left by the snow plow on my driveway even after it had been rained on for most of a day. I didn't expect it to be able to throw that heavy of snow but it handled it no problems at all!

  • A: Yes it will damage composite deck. It will leave light scrapes and black marks wherever it goes. I had to purchase skid plates and modify the blower to raise it so that the auger doesn't touch the deck.
