A decent, easy to use kit

Overall very happy. The only reason I ranked it 4 stars is that it is a bit misleading. The "40 tests" is actually 10 of each of the 4 tests - so 10 soil samples total. The biggest issue I had with the kit was that being in an area with a high clay composition in the soil, it took a very long time (even longer than 24 hours) for the soil to settle sufficiently. Even then I ended up using the kit with still a bit of particulate in the water - but it seemed to work fine. For future tests I think I'll rig up a small string based centrifuge to help draw down more of the sediment. To the review that mentioned the lack of colour change - it did take a while and a few extra mixes to get the colour change, but it did happen. The extra sediment does make it a bit harder to interpret. I did notice that one of the tests (nitrogen in my case) had the slightest colour change (barely perceptable) - but I tested some newly bought soil and the kit worked - so in my case it's simply that the nitrogen content of my soil is so low it was below the limit for colour change (so now I know why my plants are dying at least! Need more nitrogen). Easy to use overall.

Terrible Kit: Waste of time and money

Both the N (nitrogen) and P (phosphate) gave absolutely NO COLOUR on any of the 5 soil samples we tested. In fact, when I added some fertilizer to these tubes after the allotted time had passed there was STILL no reaction, even though the fertilizer had all 3 in abundance. The pH appeared to be almost neutral (7) on all 5 samples, but considering the results in the other 3 categories I don't even trust the pH. Also, the capsules of chemicals were hard to open, like they had been stuck together after long period of storage in excessive heat. I would not recommend you trust this kit. I think the chemicals may have expired over time. I will be asking for my money back. I worked in a chemistry laboratory for many years and hoped I could at least get a ballpark figure on these tests, but I don't trust the results.
