Drano Pro Strength Max Gel Didn't Work for Me

I usually only leave reviews if I had a great experience with a product. My wash basin in the bathroom was starting to get clogged up so before it could get worse I decided to be proactive. I went to Canadian Tire and looked for several drain cleaners and clog removers. The Drano Pro Strength Max Gel looked great and was on sale, so I decided to get it. I tried it for two consecutive nights, but it made the clog even worse. We had to resort to using a plunger which did the job. This product has a 100% money-back guarantee, but Canadian Tire won't take it back, you'll have to contact the company directly. I spoke to the customer service representative at Canadian Tire who said she used this product before and it worked well for her. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I'm not saying this is not a good product, it just didn't work for me.

This product does a good enough job to unclog a bathroom sink drain. The drain will need another round in hopes of completely clearing the clog, but is as good or slightly better than most brands in the same price range. Reasonably priced and because the bottle design is slim I have the cupboard space to always keep a bottle on hand.

I think the drain was plugged up by long hairs from the kids. I let the Drano sit for an hour, which is more than the 15-30 mins in the instructions, and the poured about 2.5 L of boiling water.

Q: Safe to leave in pipe for a longer time? The directions recommend leaving for 15-30 minutes. Is it okay to leave it overnight or would that cause pipe damage? I have a really stubborn clog and want to give it lots of time.

Q: can drano gel be used to klll Drain frly like ivade drain gell? Most of the drain gells, drain foams and drain cleaners available in markete are being used to kill drain flies . can I use this product for same purpose? Thanks

  • A: Drano will kill drain flies. If you pour the liquid/gel down the pipes and close off the drain, the ingredients will kill the flies inside. With that being said, it won’t take care of drain flies outside of the pipes.
