Q: Do I need to get driveway sealed after applying this crack filler? We have a big driveway.

  • A: I used it the 2nd day after purchase and it worked ok for first application. The next day I applied a second layer where I missed some spots and it still worked ok.

Q: My first application seemed to settle in the crack. Can a second application be applied over the first once it’s cured

  • A: Absolutely yes. Apply as many as are required. I found it useful to have a standard putty knife to smooth out the surface.

Q: Is it a liquid or condensed Asphalt? Can I keep the rest for futher use?

  • A: It comes in liquid form. Once applied it hardens. If the container is sealed properly, you can store for future us. Personally, this product dries out and cracks over time and so I use roof repair which stays flexible even after you apply and the crack does not reappear.

Q: What are the most ideal conditions in which to apply this product? Can it be applied on hot summer days, or are more moderate days better? Please comment about the humidity levels as well.

  • A: I find it best in the early morning, the crack or cracks have cooled overnight and are at their widest, the material will flow deep into the crack. To achieve the best results have the material as warm as possible. I have never applied the material when the ground is wet so can't really comment other than if possible wait for a dry day.

Q: Can you put oil based sealer over this?

1 Answer
  • A: Black Knight Asphalt crack filler is a water based product, they should ask the manufacturer of the oil based sealer if it would adhere, as far as compatibility once the crack filer is fully cured there shouldn’t be a problem.
