Q: Am I suppost to break off the plastic four legged part off of the pen?

A: That is the holder/stand for the pen. You sit the pen on top upside down when you need to put down the pen while you are working so the paint flow to the tip of the pen. You don’t have to use it if you don’t want to but it does help when you pick up the pen again when you need paint coming out right away.
